MOI Joins Auction To Help Children With Cancer In Ireland
(28 November 2014)

The Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior participated in a charity auction in Belfast, Ireland. The event, held on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and auctioning sports items, aims at helping the families of Irish children with cancer.

The most attractive items, which brought in the most money at the auction, were two VIP tickets for the Formula 1 Grand Prix races. Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, oversaw the initiative. It is worth mentioning that the initiative is carried out by the Higher Committee for Child Protection as part of its philanthropic efforts, in response to the directives of the wise leadership.

The Secretary General said, “We have established the Higher Committee for Child Protection in a bid to protect all children across the UAE. However, it gives us great pleasure to be able to help others and put a smile on the face of children suffering from any kind of problems in other parts of the world. Through this gesture, we hope to bring them optimism and hope and help them as they try to overcome their suffering”.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Interior carried out several initiatives and projects, which reinforce child protection against all type of risks, out of its commitment to become an example and a role model for the region and the world for its efforts to promote protection and security of children through preventive and precautionary measures, which thereby strengthens the community’s security and safety.

The Ministry has adopted several measures to enhance child protection, most notably the decision to set up the Child Protection Centre (CPC). The Centre aims to protect children against any potential crime or phenomena that may encourage the exploitation of children, and additionally seeks to develop the proper solutions and initiatives in order to protect them. It also seeks to monitor any potential cyber exploitation or crimes against children, and any attempts of abuse committed by sex offenders to lure children and teenagers. The Centre also endeavors to monitor any wrongful behaviors or violations at cyber cafes or through public networks by documenting the identity of users and tracking their browsing history; and additionally seeks to spread awareness regarding the optimal use of the internet among families and individuals.

Moreover, the Higher Committee for Child Protection endeavored to boost parental control and supervision on children in order to acquaint them with the dangers of misusing the Internet. It also seeks to raise their awareness about the potential risks they may encounter. To this end, the Committee launched and implemented media campaigns and specialized academic and training programs to raise awareness about the risks of cyber crimes, especially those related to child online abuse, in coordination with the competent authorities.
