The Center for Waste Management - Abu Dhabi (Tadweer) hosted a field visit for a group of female students from the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI).
The visit, which included a tour of Tadweer’s plastic recycling plant, mmedical waste incinerator and tire recycling factory, provided students with an insight into the operating mechanisms of Tadweer’s recycling facilities, as well as their capacities and stages of the recycling process.
Briefing the students about Tadweer’s services and advanced facilities, the Tadweer team offered useful tips on waste reduction, reuse and segregation at source. Students were also urged to join hands with Tadweer in its efforts to reduce all types of waste in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Abdul Rahman Al Blooshi, Acting Executive Director, Strategy and Business Development, Tadweer, said: "We hosted the field visit for ADVETI students as part of our school awareness program, which articulates our priority to collaborate with higher education institutions in Abu Dhabi to promote environmental awareness. Through such initiatives, we seek to enrich students’ understanding of the importance of waste management latest methodologies and practices, towards achieving sustainability and preserving natural resources."
“The school awareness program aims to cultivate a sense of social responsibility and promote the principles of three R’s among the students. In addition to highlighting public hygienic practices, the program also invites schools to join the ‘Sustainable Schools’ initiative in collaboration with the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi,” Al Blooshi added.
Continuing with its Environment Week initiatives, Tadweer also hosted an awareness lecture at Sheikha Bint Saroor School in Abu Dhabi. During the event, a short film on Tadweer was screened to outline the company’s integrated waste management services and facilities, while promoting awareness on the importance of waste segregation at source.
Commenting on the lecture, Fatima Al Harmoudi, Public Awareness Officer at Tadweer, said: “Tadweer pursues an active strategy in its efforts to create an environmentally-aware generation in Abu Dhabi through cultivating the principles of environmental conservation. In organizing this lecture, our aim is to enable students to take up their responsibility in maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment in the emirate through participating in classroom-based activities. As part of our sessions, we also place strong emphasis on the role of teachers in promoting appropriate practices among students with regard to waste segregation, reuse and reduction. This is to discourage them from the habit of littering and random dumping.”
In collaboration with its strategic partners, Tadweer pursues an active strategy in applying sustainable waste management practices such as waste reduction at source and waste reuse and recycling. To educate the public about the importance of waste reduction and recycling, Tadweer conducts a series of public outreach programs to complement its year-round initiatives and campaigns.
