ABU DHABI, 9 February 2009: Abu Dhabi’s hospitality sector is eagerly awaiting results of the inaugural Gourmet Abu Dhabi Stars Awards – the ‘Oscars’ of the local hospitality industry – which are to be presented at a unique Gala Dinner being held at Al Raha Beach Hotel on Tuesday night (February 10).

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) to coincide with the Gourmet Abu Dhabi 2009 epicurean extravaganza, the awards will recognise culinary prowess across eight categories: Restaurant Of The Year; Executive Chef Of The Year; Restaurant Manager Of The Year; Regional Cuisine Restaurant Of The Year; Regional Cuisine Chef Of The Year; Regional Cuisine Manager Of The Year; Food & Beverage Manager Of The Year and Restaurant Host Of The Year.

"The awards’ objective is very focussed – to bring added impetus to the ongoing campaign within Abu Dhabi’s hospitality industry to consistently strive for total excellence in product and service provision," said Nasser Al Reyami, Director Tourism Standards, ADTA.

Some 118 nominations - a mix of outlets and hospitality professionals - were received for the awards which were subject to public voting and final adjudication by an expert panel including Ahmed Ramadan, CEO and Founder of Roya International, the region’s leading hospitality services specialist; Ian Fairservice, Managing Partner of Motivate Publishing and an established figure in the UAE’s hospitality scene; and Andrew Tjioe, President of the Tung Lok Group, Singapore’s leading restaurant chain.

The Gourmet Abu Dhabi Gala Dinner is set to rank among the UAE capital’s social occasions of the year with guests being treated to cuisine and vintages from the more than 20 chefs and six chateaux featured in the culinary fiesta.
