The Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Police Schools Department, won a rich haul of five medals, including one gold medal, one silver medal and three bronze medals, as well as the Best Player trophy from the GCC Taekwondo (Kyorugi) and inaugural Poomsae Championships that concluded in Manama, Bahrain recently. The tournaments, which were held from 5 to 10 November 2014, took place at Madinat Khalifa Hall in Manama.
Colonel Waleed Al Shamesi, Head of the Police Schools Department at Abu Dhabi Police, noted that the UAE team to the tournaments included 5 female players, in addition to the accompanying technical staff.
He commended the considerable efforts made by the participants during the championship to highlight the civilized and bright image of the UAE in sports competitions. “This heralds a promising future for them in achieving high levels of success and athletic performance locally, regionally and internationally, under the support of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare that encourages the UAE’s sons and daughters to achieve leadership in various fields,” said Colonel Al Shamesi.
In conclusion, he pointed out that the championship’s results were as follows: player Murifa Al Mazroui claimed a gold medal in Taekwondo and the Best Player trophy in the women’s category; while Ghalia Askar won a silver medal; Mahra Mousa, Maitha Saeed, and Kholoud Eid won bronze medals.
