MOI Organizes Smart Applications Award Forum For Students With Hearing Disabilities
(11 November 2014)

Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Ministry of Interior organized an introductory forum at Al Khawarizmi Institute in Abu Dhabi. The forum aims at acquainting deaf and hearing impaired students of Al Khawarizmi Institute with the second edition of the MoI’s Award for Smartphone Applications.

Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations and Head of E-Services and Smart Applications Team at the Ministry of Interior (MoI), noted that the award comes in response to the directives of the police leadership. “It also embodies the ministry’s keenness to actively support government projects, especially electronic and smart projects aimed at strengthening the UAE’s electronic presence in the global competitiveness index. It also aims to attract and support the innovative ideas of students and foster and encourage talents, in a bid to boost the quality and efficiency of services provided by the various ministry’s sectors and departments,” added Major General Al Raisi. He also reiterated the MoI’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with the various academic institutions, departments and entities across the UAE.

Adding further, Major General Al Raisi emphasized that promoting government efficiency requires developing sophisticated and modern services, that are easy to implement and available around the clock. “This would achieve coherence and complementarity among government agencies concerned with service delivery in its various stages, with a view of enhancing customer experience and improving the quality of services provided to customers, so as to achieve the government’s objectives of reaching full customer satisfaction," he reiterated.

For his part, Major Eng. Hassan Muthanna Al Harbi, Member of the Electronic Smart Services and Smart Applications Program Team at the Ministry of Interior, gave the attendees a detailed overview of the criteria, conditions and categories of the award. “The award is compatible with the Best Government ‘Service via the Mobile’ Award, organized by the UAE Government,” underlined Major Al Harbi. He also praised the dynamic and efficient participation of students with hearing disabilities in the forum and their keenness to participate in the award.

Mrs. Haya Abdullah Al Hammadi, Director of Abu Dhabi Center for Care and Rehabilitation, said that participation in the award reflects the vision of Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care aimed at establishing specialized services for people with hearing disabilities, in partnership with the various organizations and agencies in the Abu Dhabi Emirate. “People with hearing disabilities are as eligible as their peers. They have the required skills and capabilities that qualify them to take part in the efforts needed to achieve further progress in our beloved country; they positively interact with the different activities and initiatives designed by these entities, particularly the electronic projects and smart government applications.”
