HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister Of State, Inaugurates ADIPEC 2014 Conference Programme
(10 November 2014)

HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, formally inaugurated the Conference Programme of the largest ever Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), marking four days of industry-related activities, and bringing together leading international and regional decision makers to set the agenda for meeting global energy demand.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, ADIPEC 2014 is hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), organised by dmg events, and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy and the Abu Dhabi Chamber.

The opening day featured insightful speeches from four keynote speakers: H.E. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chief Executive Officer, Energy at Mubadala; HE Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADNOC; Mr Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, ADIPEC 2014 Chairman, and Strategy and Coordination Director, ADNOC; and Dr Michio Kaku, world renowned physicist and authority on the environment.

“Since our discovery of oil, the UAE has been a responsible and reliable energy leader. To meet the growing domestic and international demand for energy, we are innovating to extend the life of our precious hydrocarbon resources through diversifying our energy portfolio and by unlocking new and traditional sources of energy,” said HE Dr. Al Jaber

Following the theme “Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years”, ADIPEC is celebrating its 30thanniversary by breaking its previous records with the largest exhibition and conference to date.

Mr Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, ADIPEC 2014 Chairman, and Strategy and Coordination Director at ADNOC, said: “ADIPEC is a showcase for innovation in the hydrocarbon industry, both regionally and worldwide. Technology and strategies are evolving, products and services developing even as we speak.

“ADIPEC provides a platform for collaborating, sharing and partnering as we maximize our joint resources and expertise,” Mr Al Shamsi added.

Leading the most packed conference line-up ever assembled for ADIPEC, the Ministerial Panel brought together international ministers and decision makers who offered new insights on developing in-country value through the development of local talent. The four panel speakers were HE Suhail Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy; HE Dr Ali Saleh Al Omair, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for the National Assembly, State of Kuwait; Right Honourable Lord Howell of Guildford, Former Secretary of State for Energy, Former Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK; and HE Abdalla Salem El Badri, Secretary General for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. Panel members discussed issues around transforming oil wealth by investing in people – particularly youth – to create employment and feed into the growth of regional economies.

The first of two Executive Plenary Sessions that are being held at ADIPEC 2014, `Challenges and Opportunities for the Next 30 Years – Innovation and Leadership,’ explored the challenges of the changing landscape and need for collaboration to meet future energy needs.

The ADIPEC 2014 conference will bring together more than 600 speakers from 111 organisations, with Executive Panels and Plenary Sessions, 81 technical sessions, 4 academic sessions, 3 special IT sessions, and industry breakfasts and luncheons. A dedicated VIP programme geared towards senior industry representatives will spotlight some of the most critical issues in the industry.

Executive Plenary speakers include representatives from ADNOC, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Total, GE Oil & Gas and Saudi Aramco.

Sixteen National Oil Companies (NOCs) and 17 International Oil Companies (IOCs) have confirmed their presence at ADIPEC this year, the highest NOC and IOC participation in the event’s history, including 20 international country pavilions.

“ADIPEC has established itself as part of the essential fabric of the oil and gas industry, a key forum for driving understanding and knowledge sharing among the decision makers and thought leaders in the sector,” said Christopher Hudson, Senior Vice President, Energy at dmg events.

“This year’s edition of ADIPEC is our largest, most successful ever, with more participants than ever before and our most comprehensive line-up yet of sessions, panels and speakers. We look forward to setting the agenda for the key issues the industry will address for now and for the next 30 years.”

The first day of ADIPEC 2014 will conclude with the announcement of this year’s winners of the ADIPEC Awards at the ceremonial Gala Dinner, which is hosted by ADNOC and held at the Emirates Palace Hotel. The ADIPEC 2014 Awards, which celebrate excellence in energy and recognise innovation in the Middle East, welcomed a record 396 submissions this year, featuring some of the most innovative projects in the region.
