Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantout Horse Race and Polo Club, the fifth Pink Polo Championship begins on Friday, November 7th.
The event is supported by the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, HAAD, and the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, ADCB, and is sponsored by other parties with the aim of creating awareness of breast cancer.
Access to the event is free for the public and organisers said it would also include several amusement activities for children besides health awareness programmes.
The club's Deputy Chairman, Saeed bin Houfan Al Mansouri, praised H.H. Sheikh Falah for his support of the event to ensure its success.
"November 7th will be a day of important humanitarian and social proportions. This event is part of the UAE's keenness to create awareness about breast cancer to help in its treatment," he said at a press conference today at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
The club's Director-General, Ahmed Al Nuaimi, also lauded H.H. Sheikh Falah for patronising the event and said the club would be open to all during the games.
He said the event would also include programmes to explain breast cancer and the need for early detection and treatment.
HAAD said the event constitutes a significant message from the authority and its role in the UAE health sector, adding that at least 1.1 million people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year worldwide.
ADCB said it would be organising a series of activities during the games, including children's events, adding that it has "some surprises" for the public.
