Acting on directives from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, gave orders to name the tallest building in Abu Dhabi City after Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, made the announcement as he inaugurated the Mohammed bin Rashid Tower, in a ceremony to mark the UAE Flag Day in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, and a number of senior officials.
In his remarks at the ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed said the directives of His Highness the President and the orders of His Highness the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi "reflect the strong bonds of fraternity and love between all Emiratis, and reflect the high status of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid in the UAE and internationally, with a remarkable record of achievements and foresight that had a substantial impact on development and prosperity in the UAE." He added that all Emiratis take pride on this glorious national occasion as they are unified by the Flag Day celebration which coincides with the accession of President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the presidency and rulership.
He also stressed that the occasion also marks the success of Emiratis in building their state which was established by its founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the rulers of the emirates.
H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed noted that Emiratis take pride in their leader His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who continues the process of development and achievement flanked by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Member and Rulers of the Emirates.
Following the ceremony, H.H. Sheih Hazza bin Zayed toured the Mohammed bin Rashid Tower before ascending to the top (92nd) floor of the structure, which stands at 382 metres high, to view the city's skyline.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Tower comprises 474 residential units and is the main feature of World Trade Center Abu Dhabi, developed by Al Dar Properties in the heart of Abu Dhabi.
