The idea was the brainchild of Watani Al Emarat Foundation, and the Hamdan Bin Mohamed Heritage Centre willingly supported this initiative and helped to create content that would creatively depict the history of sailing, which is deeply cherished and prided upon by the citizens of the UAE. The project took over a year for completion, and more than 30 people were involved in shooting and editing the video montage to go with the new version of the National Anthem, which was composed by a well-known Emirati composer, one of the known advisors in the Hamdan Bin Mohamed Heritage Centre, Professor Ibrahim Juma. The video is the result of the successful cooperation between the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center and Watani Al Emarat Foundation to implement this project and achieve their joint vision to strengthen the national identity among the citizens of the UAE, to imbibe and disseminate the country’s culture and heritage among the younger generations.
On the occasion of the birth of this innovative concept, Mr. Obaid Rashid Al Falasi, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Watani Al Emarat Foundation, commented, “This project aims to revive maritime heritage, which is one of the most important elements imprinted in the UAE’s history. The magnificent flag of the nation flies high, distinctive from the rest of the world, combining Bedouin Arab traditions with the ancient practices of mariners worldwide, which were instrumental to developing the diving industry and building its prosperity for generations to come.”
Al Falasi confirmed that this short film is the result of collaboration with Hamdan Bin Mohamed Heritage Centre, and he emphasized on the importance of Flag Day as an excellent occasion to highlight the need for the exchange of knowledge and experiences between generations, so to preserve the different trade secrets of the people of the coastal areas, a testament to the fundamental role played by the Center and Watani Al Emarat Foundation in highlighting community initiatives.
Dr. Amina Khamis Al Dhaheri, Director of Studies and Research at the Hamdan Bin Mohamed Heritage Centre, expressed that she is proud of this new undertaking by the Center, which perfectly aligns its mission and vision to adopt constructive new means to promote national identity. She stated, “We are delighted to launch this video, which will serve as an anthem for marine heritage in the UAE through its strong rhythm and imagery, on the occasion of Flag Day. It reinforces the UAE’s position as a pioneer in innovation in the Arab world, through its continuous efforts to developing new initiatives that will promote innovation in different sectors, paving the way for the country to be recognized as a world leader in innovation.”
Dr. Amina added that the Center is constantly working on innovative plans and strategies to promote innovation in the field of national heritage, in line with the national strategy of innovation to achieve Vision 2021.
In conclusion, Dr. Amina and Al Falasi expressed their excitement at the completion of this project, which marks the start of continuous cooperation between Hamdan Bin Mohamed Heritage Centre and Watani Al Emarat Foundation in achieving the common objectives of the two parties, which complement each other to serve this nation.
