Ericsson Inducts UAE Students Into The Networked Society At GITEX 2014
(27 October 2014)

Empowering tomorrow’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) leaders UAE with an exclusive introduction to the Networked Society, Ericsson invited four UAE universities to send students for a guided tour around the company’s stand at GITEX 2014.

Over 70 students from The Higher Colleges of Technology for Men and Women, American University in Dubai, and New York University in Abu Dhabi participated in the invitational tour, which was hosted by Randa El Sawi, Public Relations Manager, Ericsson, Region Middle East. During the tour of the stand, the students learnt about Ericsson and its Networked Society vision, in which everything that can benefit from a connection will be connected.

Ericsson’s stand featured three experience zones: Working Life in the Networked Society, City Life in the Networked Society, and Home Life in the Networked Society. Demos of the various technologies on display in each zone brought the Networked Society vision to life for the students, who were able to experience the Ericsson Connected Car – an actual Volvo with new cloud-based Sensus Connect connectivity, using Ericsson’s Service Enablement Platform; Zero Site, a mockup of the solution created by Ericsson for network densification in an outdoor city environment; the Connected Basketball, which demonstrates how sensors can be used to improve performance; and Ericsson’s Window of Opportunity, an exploration project that tests what happens when ordinary windows are connected and act as connectors.

Girish Johar, Head of Human Resources of Ericsson Region Middle East, said: “The students of today are industry’s future tomorrow. I am sure these opportunities will inspire them to think even more innovatively to be able to contribute to the future developments. Being the only company to conduct such tours during GITEX 2014, we are pleased to have provided an enriching experience to UAE students, providing them with the opportunity to learn about Ericsson’s breakthrough technologies for the future.”

During the tours, Ericsson announced the launch of its annual global Innovation Awards competition for 2015, for which students can submit new innovations to enhance the future of education. The competition’s winner will receive 25,000 Euros, with first and second runners-up receiving 15,000 Euros and 10,000 Euros, respectively.
