UAE Official Delegation At The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference Holds Bilateral Meetings With Delegation Of United Kingdom, Ukraine, Kenya, And Singapore

The UAE official delegation at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference held today a series of bilateral meetings with the delegations of the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Kenya, and Singapore, to garner support of the UAE winning the membership of the ITU Council for the third time, and support the UAE candidate in the Radio Regulations Board membership. These meetings were held during the UAE’s participation in the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference held in Busan, South Korea until November 7.

H.E. Karen Pierce, the permanent representative of the United Kingdom at many international organizations in Geneva, said after the meeting: “We have a solid relationship with the UAE and are working together to form a collaborated vision on international matters, specifically ITU related. We would like to emphasize that the leadership in both countries have a futuristic vision on promoting and developing mechanisms of cooperation to enhance knowledge sharing and experiences in various fields.”

Dr. Fred Matin, the Minister of Communications in Kenya added: "We express our deep satisfaction with the outcome of the discussions that took place with the UAE delegation and look forward to strengthening our long term partnership. Concerning the discussion on ITU’s mission, we look forward to adopting a special ICT mechanism since it is one of the most powerful tools to achieve economic development. There is much to learn from UAE, and we are delighted with the meeting outcomes that resulted in our agreement to mutually support our candidates, in addition to our agreement to develop a bilateral framework to enhance our partnership for the good of our citizens.”

HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA and head of the UAE official delegation said: "These meetings were positive in nature, where we felt a genuine intention to support the UAE’s candidacy to the membership of the ITU Council and the Radio Regulations Board among many heads of delegations. From our side, we stressed upon the importance of international cooperation and coordination with various countries to positively impact the role of telecommunication in sustainable development globally.”

H.E. Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, played a pivotal role in all the meetings and activities on the agenda of the UAE’s delegation. Al Zaabi also honored the head of the United Kingdom delegation by granting her the UAE state accolade.

The UAE delegation has also held other meetings with delegations of India, Pakistan, Thailand, Azerbaijan, and Singapore for the same purpose.
