The Pan Medical Conference on Women’s Health, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Medical Services Department, called for conducting a comprehensive survey to identify the major endemic diseases in the region. This would help to create a database aimed at measuring improvement and development of efforts and resources in the fight against these diseases with a view to eradicate them completely. It also recommended encouraging health authorities to develop national programs, by which the diseases prevailing in the region are thoroughly studied with the aim of combating them.    

On the closing day of the conference, which took place on Saturday at the Rosewood Hotel in Abu Dhabi, participants indicated that early health care for woman will protect them against several aging-associated diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, different cancers, and stretch marks. It will also help to avoid permanent disabilities that may be caused by some diseases. They noted that early care, which starts in the very first stages of women’s life, all the way through adolescence, pregnancy, and childbearing, up to menopause produces a healthy society made up of healthy children and a coherent family with participation from both the husband and wife.

In their recommendations, the participants at the conference called for reviewing the existing applicable health strategies, improving their criteria and adding new standards; in addition to developing an action plan for early cultural and awareness programs that are age-appropriate to spread health awareness, as a good investment in humans in general and women in particular. Participants also stressed the need to regularly organize such global highly acclaimed conferences, which represent a major challenge, due to the different disciplines discussed under one theme. Additionally, participants stressed the importance of promoting research and the need for encouraging medical school graduates and new doctors to take part in such endeavors, so as to enrich scientific research and contribute to creating a reliable scientific database used as reference to develop plans and strategies.

The conference also called for enhanced cooperation with global medical experts, which would help improve local competences and therefore benefit patients and make sure they enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

In its last day, the Pan Medical Conference (Women's Health) included a number of papers, notably a paper about pregnancy and oral health, submitted by Major Dr. Mohammed Al Raisi, Consultant Orthodontist at Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services, which tackled the most important oral hygiene problems facing women during pregnancy and means of prevention; another paper about vitamins and hair loss among women, presented by Dr. Thamer Al Mubki from KSA; and  paper about the latest updates in the treatment of hyperpigmentation was submitted by Dr. Elham Abdel Zaher from the UAE. Several other papers were also on the agenda; notably a paper about the inflammatory bowel disease by Dr. Nigel Beejay from the United Kingdom; a paper about breast cancer and breast reconstruction, by Dr. Ammar Al Dhamin and Dr. Mohamed Al Bashir from the UAE; another paper about urticaria and cancer by Professor Chalid Assaf from Germany; and a paper about the latest scientific updates for Osteoporosis in women by Dr. Mustafa Al Izzi from the UAE. Moreover, Dr. Laila Abdul-Wareth from the UAE presented a paper about Vitamin D deficiency effects; Professor Muhieddine Seoud from Lebanon shed the light on the latest updates on Menopausal Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT); Professor Hassan Nasrat from KSA tackled urinary incontinence; and Professor Raymond Powrie from the USA discussed sepsis in the reproductive age. Oocyte Vitrification: Preservation of Female Fertility was the title of a clinical practice symposia moderated by Dr. Salah Abdelgadir, USA, while Professor Abraham Albert Yuzpe from Canada, submitted a paper titled “Reducing the Risk of Failed Implantation and

Pregnancy Loss in IVF”.
