Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, is to collaborate with Etisalat, the region's leading telecommunication service provider, to help it integrate sustainable, energy solutions into its operations.
A two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on the sidelines of GITEX Technology Week 2014, by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, CEO of Masdar and Engineer Saleh Al Abdooli, CEO of Etisalat.
At GITEX, Masdar showcased the attractive investment opportunities available at Masdar City – Abu Dhabi’s sustainable urban development. Strategically located in Abu Dhabi’s fastest growing corridor, Masdar City offers tremendous advantages, including free zone benefits, seamless registration, foreign ownership, 99-year lease options and much more.
Dr. Belhoul said: “For the past eight years, Masdar has played a leading role in advancing sustainable energy solutions through research, education and investment in support of the UAE’s commitment to energy diversification. Our collaboration with Etisalat underscores the growing commitment by UAE companies to reduce their environmental footprint and implement cleaner, more sustainable operations.
“We will work closely with Etisalat to identify smarter, cleaner energy solutions that will deliver long term business benefits and increase our nation’s economic resilience, as well as provide a sustainability model for the global telecommunications industry.”
The MOU outlines key areas of collaboration, including the identification and analysis of renewable energy solutions, the opportunity to audit telecommunications networks, advise on energy optimization projects and lead workshops about the value of sustainable practices.
Eng. Al Abdooli, said, “Etisalat is moving rapidly towards the adoption of green energy solutions, much like the UAE in its commitment to use alternate sources of energy. The large number of initiatives that Etisalat has rolled out over the decades is a proof of our efforts in using technology and deploying innovative solutions, which can really make a positive difference to the environment.
“Our partnership with Masdar marks another important milestone toward energy optimization and sustainability in the country’s telecom industry.”
At the Masdar City stand, free zone representatives highlighted the business opportunities available to large and small investors, developers and tenants. In addition, GITEX attendees learned how sustainable design and development delivers unmatched value – both environmentally and economically.
Masdar City is pioneering a “greenprint” for how cities can accommodate for rapid urbanization, while dramatically reducing energy, water and waste. Today, more than 160 companies, ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations, have made Masdar City their home. Notable tenants include: Siemens, GE, Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the International Renewable Energy Agency.
