The Police Sports Association and the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ in an agreement to raise the level of the sports sector within the police organization. The signing was attended by Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Police Sports Association.
The MoU was signed by Colonel Mohammed Hamid Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Police Sports Association, and HE Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Sharif, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council.
The MoU stipulates the provision of support to the sports sector and expands the realm of sports activities. Furthermore, it translates the keenness of both parties to establish a strategic partnership of joint cooperation in the field of sports, as they are two of the most prominent sports organizations in the UAE and representatives of large segments in the sports sector. Moreover, the MoU reflects their desire to work together to provide various kinds of support in order to achieve their common goals. These steps reflect positively on the field of sports throughout the entire UAE.
The MoU regulates work between the parties in the area of cooperation and participation in programs, initiatives and joint ventures; as well as full cooperation within fields of operational work, such as the exchange of technical and managerial expertise in the field of sports, information, knowledge, and publications. The MoU also states that the participation in joint committees and task forces is to develop sports work, to further facilitate the participation of individuals in sports entities, and to participate in official sports competitions and tournaments.
The MoU additionally allows the exchange of invitations to participate in tournaments, events, forums, conferences, and specialized sports; in addition to the exchange of plans, programs, activities, the provision and use of facilities, sports facilities and equipment, and advice regarding sport topics.
HE Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Police Sports Association, said, “The MoU signed between the Police Sports Association and the DSC promotes cooperation in the field of sports, and contributes to the development of the police sports system. This comes as a translation of the vision of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; thus making a quantum leap in this area, as sports are effective methods in developing efficient human resources. Upgrading the sports for the police will duly benefit sports throughout the entire UAE.”
Adding further, HE Major General Al Rumaithi pointed out that cooperation between the Police Sports Association and the DSC will motivate everyone to redouble their efforts and contributions in order to further develop the technical level in every game; and to aspire to compete in world championships, stand on the winner’s podium and raise the UAE flag in all international forums. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Police Sports Association highlighted that the signing of the MoU embodies the commitment of all parties involved in the sports system to uphold and develop the banner of police sports, so as to achieve the goals set in the near future.
For his part, HE Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al Sharif, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed his delight regarding the signing of the MoU and said, “We are pleased to sign the MoU with the Police Sports Association, a prominent national institution known for its significant role and mission. The association’s objectives and competencies in the societal and sporting fields are similar to and integrated with that of the council. We are delighted with signing this MoU with an association of such national pride, as this establishes an official framework for the existing cooperative relationship with shared goals.”
He added, “The role of the council and the association is not limited to their obligation. Both sides are keen to assume a national role that covers all borders, citizens, and most particularly, athletes. The council’s role extends beyond the borders of the Emirate of Dubai, and the association’s role extends beyond the police sector. We are confident that the next stage will be filled with fruitful cooperation between both sides in various fields.”
On the same note, Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Police Sports Association, reiterated the keenness of the association to exert all efforts in order to achieve the objectives of the MoU signed with the DSC. “We will endeavor to provide all of the facilities and capabilities that help to achieve the aspirations of the Police Sports Association, which is an integral part of the sports community in the beloved UAE. Police athletes make up the backbone of most of our teams in various national sports,” he said.
