RCA successfully takes 40 tons of medicines and equipments to Gaza
(24 January 2009)

Convoys carrying over 40 tonnes of medicines and medical appliances sent by the UAE Red Crescent Authority crossed Rafah boarder today on their way to Gaza, where thousands of men, women and children are bleeding as a result of the reckless aggression unleashed by the Israeli army on Palestinians.

Many of the victims have lost their limbs in the wanton bombardment and are confined to the remaining hospitals in Gaza, a place reduced into a wasteland in the attack.

The medical supplies sent by RCA to help those struggling with their lives had arrived at the Al-Areesh airport on the Egyptian-Palestinian boarders yesterday, and volunteers were busy overnight to load them into trucks.

Efforts are underway for dispatching another convoy to Gaza carrying over 100 tons of emergency relief supplies like wheat flour, which were purchased by RCA from the local market in Egypt.

Head of the RCA delegation in Al-Areesh Suhail Rashid Al Qadi said that the relief operations are going well in implementation of the directives of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and General HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Al Qadi said that the RCA delegation arrived in Al-Areesh on the first day of the Israeli attack on Gaza and is stationed there overseeing the relief operations in the devastated Gaza as per the directives of Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of RCA HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The noble initiatives of the UAE leadership could substantially alleviate the sufferings brought about by the aggression, and could add to the quality of the services to the victims of the war, Al Qadi added.

RCA could transport the medical relief supplies to Gaza relatively in a short span of time, and no obstruction was found at the Rafah crossing, Al Qadi added.

The UAE ambassador to Egypt Ahmed Ali Al-meel Al-Zaabi and other officials at the embassy are actively involved in the relief mission, he noted.
