Sustainable It Solutions To Take Center Stage At Abu Dhabi E- Government’s Standduring Gitex 2014

A range of sustainable IT solutions will be displayed at GITEX 2014, as twenty-two Abu Dhabi Government entities, hosted By Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC),participate at the highly acclaimed annual knowledge-sharing ICT conference held at the Dubai World Trade 12th to the 16th of October.

Under the theme, “Towards a Digital Abu Dhabi’, the entities will showcase their latest innovations, IT solutions, product apps and software offerings that have been developed to make life easier and more convenientfor the citizens and residents of the Emirate. Many will also showcase apps designed to protect the environment or to spread awareness on environmental issues.

Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) official said, “The host of sustainable IT solutions that will be displayed at Abu Dhabi’s e-Government stand this yeararea testament to the hard work and dedication of our partners who strive to constantly innovate and provide excellentservices to end users while being environmentally friendlyin their development and user connectivity”.

He added that these efforts are also designed to supportthesustainabilityinitiativesof Abu Dhabi’s ‘Vison 2030’.

During GITEX, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) will launch anapp for environmental data dissemination. The app named “Beatty”, meaning “My Environment” in Arabic, allows users to access a range of eco-data such as marine and terrestrial habitats,fauna and flora distribution, groundwater andland cover information. In addition, users can use the app to access satellite images from 1972 to 2012 of the entire country.

EAD through its affiliate, the Abu Dhabi Global Data Initiative (AGEDI),will also showcase the “The Blue Carbon Toolkit”, a portal which provides an interactive overview of the approximate total carbon stock value for any selected area within the capital.

The Blue Carbon Mapping Toolsallows users to learn more about the importance and impact of coastal marine ecosystems and theirability to absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The National Reporting Toolkit, which is joint initiative between AGEDI and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)is an online information system which delivers holisticup-to-date images of the state of the environment to associated organizations, based on relevant issues and circumstances in order to help them with better decision making. 

The WRM will launch the“Canon Sustainable Energy Project” during GITEX, which is an eco-friendly initiative used to unify all printers across the Western Regionthrough higher levels of printing security and a user-friendly platform.

In addition, WRM will showcase ‘My Garden’ smartphone app, which can be used by participants in the widely popular; “My Garden My City” annual competition which aims to increase green spaces in suburban areas across Al Ain, Abu Dhabi and the Western Region while spreading awareness in the community about the importance of sustainability in our daily lives.

The Centre of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi (Tadweer), the key government entity in charge of all aspects of integrated waste management in Abu Dhabi, will spotlight its new smartphone app; “Tadweer Smart Application” which allows customers to instantly make enquiries about facilities, track status of applications, request Waste Collection or pest control service and locate Tadweer Customer Care Centers.

ADWEA, will be highlighting its“Water Network Management System”, a first of its kind initiative in the UAE and the broader Gulf region, totackle the issue of Water Management through active leak detection techniques. The system covers design, supply and installation of instrumentation, communication, IT infrastructure, hardware and software all in order to collect network parameters.

Visitors on the stand will also get the chance to learn about ADSIC’s key initiatives including Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre (800 555), e-Citizen Program, Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Portal (www.abudhabi.ae), CityGuard Application and Jobs Abu Dhabi (www.jobsabudhabi.ae)
