H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has congratulated young Pakistani education campaigner, Malala Yousafzai, on winning jointly the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize with India's children right activist Kailash Satyarthi.
Sheikha Fatima underscored that "Malala's win of Nobel Peace Prize comes as a recognition to the women's right in education, and also provides a clear message to those who try to deprive them from this right through coercion and violence." She also added that "Malala has courageously defended her rights and paid a big price for the sake of women's right to be educated, and attained better future in the light of tolerant teachings of Islam, away from extremism and narrow-mindedness, which affect badly our Islamic society." Sheikha Fatima also stressed women's need for more support in order to achieve their aspirations since they are deemed men's partners in the field of work and building a strong and cohesive family.
She expressed her happiness of Malala's win, wishing it would be a strong message that "The way to peace would be accomplished through provision of good education for women across the world." On her part, Malala extended thanks to the UAE and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who supported her through her ordeal by ensuring the medical treatment until she returned to her normal life.
