The Ministry of Interior called upon motorists to comply fully with traffic rules and regulations and legal speed limits on roads, in a bid to avoid traffic accidents and their resulting tragic injuries and losses during Eid Al-Adha holidays.
Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the need to abide by traffic police members’ instructions and to drive carefully especially near malls and markets. He also urged motorists to leave sufficient safe distance between vehicles to avoid obstructing traffic by parking randomly or inappropriately in public parking spaces, avoid using parking spaces dedicated for people with disabilities, or parking spaces allocated for Civil Defense and ambulance vehicles, so as not to impede their work in emergency cases.
"All traffic and patrols departments across the UAE have intensified patrols on external and internal roads to ensure a smooth traffic flow, prevent congestion and handle potential emergencies that could mar the joy of these blessed days," Brigadier Al Zaabi continued.
Brigadier Al Zaabi urged motorists who get involved in minor traffic accidents that don’t result in a physical injury to remove their vehicles from the road, to avoid causing traffic congestion or blocking the traffic flow. "This procedure embodies the decision issued by the Ministry of Interior upon recommendation from the Federal Traffic Council, to promote road safety; which stipulates that motorists who fail to remove their vehicles from the road after minor accidents will be fined," he continued.
Furthermore, Brigadier Al Zaabi appealed to motorists to observe legal speed limits on roads, especially external roads witnessing a high density of citizens and residents who go on excursions or visit their families and friends across the emirates. "Drivers should also remain cautious and predict other motorists' mistakes, use seatbelts, and prevent children under 10 years of age from sitting on the front passenger seat and keep them properly seated and buckled up in the back seat to maintain their safety," Brigadier Al Zaabi added.
He also warned against using mobile phones while driving, whether to talk or text; stressing that such actions represent a legal offense due to the significant danger it poses to the life of the drivers and other road users.
In conclusion, Brigadier Al Zaabi congratulated citizens and residents on the advent of Eid Al Adha; wishing both Arab and Islamic Nations many blissful returns.
