The largest and the oldest maternity of the UAE, Corniche Hospital celebrated the 30th year anniversary of its existing hospital building in a ceremony held at the hospital on the 30th September, 2014.
The event was attended by Her Excellency Reem Al Falasy representative from the Supreme Council on Motherhood and Childhood, Her Excellency Dr.MahaBarakat, Director General of the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and Dr.Matar Rashed Al Darmaki, CEO of SEHA and the leadership team of Corniche Hospital.
Technically, the Corniche is older than three decades since the hospital existed in another building since 1977, explained Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, Deputy CEO and COO of Corniche Hospital.The hospital which was initiated by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union '&' Family Development Foundation & President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood & Childhood, opened in a converted hotel building in 1977. The hospital which soon became the birthplace for generations moved to a new customized building in 1984.Over 200,000 babies have been born in Corniche Hospital since then.
Speaking about the event, Dr. Mazrouei said, “I would like express my gratitude to Her Highness Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union '&' Family Development Foundation & President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood & Childhood for her unwavering support since the inception of the hospital. We are extremely grateful to her Highness for extending her support in this celebration. Corniche Hospital has not only witnessed birth of many of leaders and citizens and it is also the birthplace of thousands of babies from different nationalities. This celebration is a moment to step back and reflect on this wonderful journey of watching generations grow.”
The event also reconnected the hospital with the babies born in 1984 and long-serving staff as they shared a special place in the hospital's history and growth over the years, added Dr. Mazrouei. The first baby girl who was delivered in the present Corniche Hospital on August 30, 1984 was honored at the event.
In order to salute the tireless dedication and contributions of the long-serving staff, Her Excellency Reem Al Falasyhonored 15 staff members with certificates of appreciation and mementos. Cakes and chocolates were also distributed to all patients and staff by Her Excellency’s team.
Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
