Abu Dhabi E-Government To Exhibit Latest Offerings At GITEX 2014
(24 September 2014)

This year at GITEX 2014, 22 Abu Dhabi government entities will join together to display the latest in IT offerings from the Emirate. Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), the government entity in charge of Abu Dhabi’s ICT agenda, has been charged by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council with hosting the entities on one stand delivering an experience for GITEX visitors that will show the depth and breadth of Abu Dhabi’s digital offering.

Under the banner of “Towards a Digital Abu Dhabi”, the 22 government organisations will display their latest apps and software offerings that make life in the Emirate more convenient, safer and increasingly business-friendly for residents and citizens alike.

“It’s an honour to host so many of our fellow Abu Dhabi government entities during GITEX,” said H.E. Rashed Lahej Al-Mansoori, Director General at ADSIC. “The mission of ADSIC is to integrate the offerings of multiple government entities into a single cohesive ICT strategy for the Emirate. This is perhaps the single largest display of that unified strategy to date. Everyone, from the Abu Dhabi Education Council to the Municipalities to the Food Control Authority and the Securities Exchange will be exhibiting their most important digital offerings. It’s going to be an incredible display of the innovation and hard work these government entities have been delivering over the past year.”

At 1591 square metres, the modern, vibrant stand is four times the size of last years – when ADSIC was joined by 11 other government entities.

To deliver on such a large undertaking, ADSIC has been working closely with the 22 entities to coordinate efforts. On 11 Sept., over 50 Abu Dhabi government employees from the 22 government organisations attended a workshop to discuss what ICT services and apps they would each showcase at GITEX 2014.

“Coordinated ICT efforts are critical for a joined up government. They make communications between government departments seamless and enrich the lives of the citizens and residents of the Emirate. That’s why we’re so pleased to see more than twice the number of entities joining us this year; more integration will undoubtedly lead to more benefit,” said Al Mansoori.

The Department of Economic Development will showcase three smartphone apps at GITEX – one for trade license transactions, a business guide application and a departmental services. All can be downloaded from: http://ded.abudhabi.ae/en. The apps will allow users to do everything from register a trade name for their business to the renewal of business licenses.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality will demonstrate their Ardy screen, a tool that allows users to view their plot of land on a GIS layered map, along with an application that will allow its employees to inspect premises and note violations on a smart tablet. Both are designed specifically with the goal of streamlining services and providing a better customer experience.

The Abu Dhabi Exchange (ADX) will share their smart app that provides real-time quotes, news and announcements as well as tools that keep traders up-to-date with market activities. The app includes market summaries of the Indices and Listed companies, watch lists to keep track of individual stocks and top stock information - including the top gainers, losers and most-traded stocks.

The Department of Transport will showcase DARB – their interactive map that provides users with useful air, land or sea itineraries throughout the Abu Dhabi Emirate - including driving directions, car travel maps, bus travel maps, bus terminals, the nearest point of interest, parking locations and bus and ferry routes.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) will exhibit their Professional Sportspersons app for i-phones, i-pads and android devices. The service enables athletes to communicate and access a number of value-added services including: consultation services, certificates, human resources and finances.

The service, which is the first of its kind in the UAE, comes within the plans of ADSC to cope with the Smart Government strategic plans. Based on this new application, affiliates of the SCP will receive the required services through their smart devices based on the Apple Store application.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council will spotlight a new quality assurance system during GITEX that will serve as a one stop shop for all quality assurance requirements, including: conformity regulations, consumer protection and inspection. The new technology has been designed to benefit the industrial sector, importers, traders and consumers among others.

They have also introduced a ‘Consumer Safety Services System’, also known as ‘Manaa’, which is an initiative that aims to offer consumers safer shopping by providing reliable information on any product that does meet consumer safety regulations.

Visitors on the stand will also get the chance to learn about ADSIC’s key initiatives including Abu Dhabi Government Contact Centre (800 555), e-Citizen Program, Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Portal (www.abudhabi.ae), CityGuard Application,  Jobs Abu Dhabi (www.jobsabudhabi.ae) & correspondence management system(Taresh).
