As part of its Mentoring Programme, Emirates Foundation has recently organised a half-day session and workshop to link young Emiratis with leaders in the private and public sectors to provide one to one mentoring advice and inspiration on key skill development topics that will enhance the mentee professional growth and personal development.
The Mentoring Programme session was attended by 10 mentors and 32 mentees at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi.
The Youth Mentoring initiative was launched in 2013 to support youth of the UAE by learning from senior members of the community who contribute positively towards the society socially, financially, scientifically or economically.
At the event, the mentors who conducted one-to-one sessions were chosen on the basis of their in-depth understanding of the UAE community, years of work experience, motivational knowledge and technology skills. Being some of the most senior and trusted members of the community, their efforts are focused on providing guidance, inspiring youth and creating a positive difference in the society.
The Mentees in the programme are some of the high preforming volunteers of Emirates Foundation programmes, including Takatof, Kafa’at and Sanid, and were given the opportunity to engage with their mentors in an educational and inspiring environment.
Maytha Al Habsi, Chief Programmes Officer at the Emirates Foundation said: “The mentoring sessions provide young Emiratis access to key professionals in the UAE looking to share their invaluable experiences”
“By connecting Emirati youth to positive role models, the programme will develop a proactive youth that are trained to engage and support the community and reflect positively on our society.” Al Habsi added.
Stages of mentoring will include teaching, training, coaching, delegating, evaluating and feedback to mentees.
As one of the mentors, Amani Al Khaledi, Head of Emiratisation at National Bank of Abu Dhabi commented: “It was truly a great opportunity for me to be involved in such a valuable programme, where I had learned about my mentees experiences and ambitions, and will support them by developing their skills and ideas, preparing them to be the future leaders of UAE.”
Khaled Al Hosani, Marketing Director at United Printing and Publishing (UPP) was also one of the mentors, said: “Despite the success of Emirates Foundation Mentorship Programme, we are proud of having such a professional project to be implemented for the first time in the UAE. With my mentees, I have received a great collaboration where we shared ideas, knowledge and opinions. We felt so close to each other, we understood each other and most importantly, we learned from each other.”
Mentee, Sultan Saoud Hadi, Senior Planning Professional at Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council said: “The Mentorship Programme is a unique platform and a great opportunity to share experiences with leaders from across the UAE. I have learned how to be good communicator, a problem solver and how to seek for new opportunities. I am proud to be one of the first joiners of the Mentorship Programme, and I am looking forward for the results.”
Each mentee will be connected to a mentor over a three month period of time where they could have at least three one to one meetings physically or via a blog, email or phone, where they are available to answer questions and assist with career development. The mentors will also continue to provide guidance on future career, job performance, financial management and time management. Each mentor will be assigning a small project to the mentee either on community involvement or business.
Attended mentees were inspired by Khaled Al Hosani, Chief Operating Officer at United Printing & Publishing (UPP), Mohamed Ahmed Al Suwaidi, General Secretariat of Executive Council, Sultan Al Karmastaji, Director at Abu Dhabi Men’s Collage, Amani Saif Al Khaledi, Head of Emiratisation at National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Sheikha Al Maskari, Writer, Dr. Taisser Atrak, Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Al Mafraq Hospital, Mariam Al Mansoori, Head of HR & Administration at ADMM, Mariam Al-Qubaisi, Co-chair at Arab Innovation Network (AIN), and Muhammed Al Maskary, Sales Manager at Twofour54 Tadreeb.
