Emotions are running high and everyone is holding their breath as the MC savors the suspense before uttering the words that every ear in the audience is hanging on: "…and the winner of the Global Management Challenge 2014 is…"

The event is the 31st edition of Global Management Challenge, the world’s largest strategy and management competition. The Challenge consists of a management simulation in which teams of three to five university students and young professionals are given complete control of a virtual company with the objective of obtaining the highest investment performance for its shareholders.

Teams of students and managers from 22 countries and four continents gathered in Sochi to compete for the championship of the Global Management Challenge.

Desert Gurus, the winner of the UAE Global Management Challenge, participated in the competition alongside teams from Brazil, India, Estonia and Greece. Desert Gurus has already made history. In March 2014, Desert Gurus, a group of management professionals from Namshi, an online fashion store, won the first ever Global Management Competition to take place in the UAE. They competed against more than 60 contenders, which included 300 participants from companies and universities around the UAE, such as DP World and American University of Dubai. Desert Gurus won first place followed by The Simulators from Higher Colleges of Technology in the second and Stratosphere from Masdar Institute of Technology in third place. In addition, the jury selected two Emirati teams, DP World and Dubal, who were recognized for their achievement, consistency of performance and dedication throughout the competition.

The winners of the international finals of the Global Management Challenge this year are a team of managers from Russia. Next year's global competition will take place in Prague, and it represents yet another opportunity for the 2015 UAE champion to come home with the trophy, thus affirming the country's relentless desire to excel in anything and everything. Such a triumph would undoubtedly harness enough interest from the business community to give the UAE a real chance to host the event.
