The “Tathqeef” education patrols at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police interacted with the pilgrims traveling by land at the Al Ghuweifat border in the Western Region. The education patrols provided the pilgrims with tips and awareness brochures in an effort to ensure their safety during the trip to the holy land.  

Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, pointed out that this gesture falls within the framework of the initiative for educating pilgrims, which was launched by the General Directorate of Police Operations as part of the “Your Safety” campaign. This campaign was implemented by the Security Media Department in the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Ameri noted that the directorate implemented the comprehensive plan to reduce the accidents that pilgrims may be exposed to by intensifying traffic control and awareness on various external highways in Abu Dhabi and on the roads leading to the Ghuweifat border. “The directorate has also organized awareness campaigns through the media and through the ‘Together’ initiative to curb accidents,” Al Ameri added.

For his part, Captain Hamad Awad Al Menhali, Acting Chief of the Western Region Traffic Section, indicated that the Traffic Directorate in the Western Region has posted signage welcoming the pilgrims. “The directorate has also received many hajj campaigns over the past few days from inside and outside of the UAE and has been distributing gifts and awareness publications to the pilgrims. We have been urging them to abide by the traffic laws and legal speed limits,” said Captain Al Menhali.

Captain Al Menhali mentioned that the directorate intensified surveillance to ensure that the buses meet the technical specifications and conditions, and are suitable for long distance road journeys with comfortable seating. He also emphasized the need for buses to comply with the permitted 60 cm cargo limit above the height of the vehicle in order to avoid traffic accidents that result from overloading. He also urged drivers to exercise caution while driving, use the seatbelt, respect signage on the road, avoid overtaking other buses, and to not use their mobile phone while driving. In the event of any bus malfunctions, the drivers are advised to call the Operations Room.

Captain Abdul Rahman Al Ali, Public Relations Branch Manager in the Western Region, reiterated the need to abide by legal speed limits, take all necessary precautions, be extremely cautious while travelling at night or in the early hours of the morning, pay attention, and to reduce speeds. He also emphasized the need to park the vehicle on the right side of the road in cases of poor visibility, and if drivers feel tired, they should take some rest and stop driving before resuming their journey. Furthermore, he encouraged them to abide by the legal speed limits within Saudi Arabia during the journey to and from the holy land.
