UAE Participates In Third Arab Conference For Directors Of Civil Affairs Departments In Tunisia
(7 September 2014)

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in the third Arab Conference for Directors of Civil Affairs. The event, which was recently held in Tunisia, was organized by the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in the presence of representatives from the ministries of interiors in the Arab countries, the Arab League, and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS).

The UAE delegation was headed by Colonel Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Saghiri, Head of the Fujairah Naturalization Department, and included Colonel Ahmad Al Muhairi, Director of the Dubai Naturalization Department, and Lt. Colonel Rashid Al Dhaheri from the Directorate General of Naturalization.

The conference resulted in a number of meaningful recommendations, as participants called for developments of work within the naturalization departments and for the promotion of Arab cooperation in civil affairs. The conference also urged the member countries to keep pace with the rapid developments and use of modern technology in the field of civil affairs in order to improve services, facilitate workflow, secure documents, and to detect forged documents.

The participants urged the member countries to implement exchange visits between employees of civil affairs departments in order to share experiences regarding work processes and relevant technologies of the Arab countries. Participants also agreed to a project of unifying an organizational reference chart for the management of civil affairs across Arab countries.

Regarding the concepts and semantics of a consolidated national number, the participants called upon the General Secretariat to survey the member countries accordingly and to consider the possibility of issuing a unified Arab identity card. The participants recommended reviewing the topic in the next conference.

The General Secretariat will submit recommendations to the next session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers for discussion.
