Tadweer Hosts Fun Activities For Children On Environment Conservation at Abu Dhabi Library Festival
(11 August 2014)

Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), is hosting a series of fun activities on environment conservation for children at Abu Dhabi Library Festival that is set to conclude end of August.

Hosted by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Authority, the festival seeks to raise awareness on the benefits of reading and adopting a sustainable way of life during the school summer holidays.

Tadweer’s outreach activities as part of the festival include sessions on the importance of hygiene and environmental conservation. Simple to adopt practices on reuse and recycling are also being highlighted to encourage the reduction of waste generation.

The significance of waste segregation at source using colour-coded trash cans - green containers for recyclable waste such as paper, tin cans, glass and plastic and black containers for waste that cannot be recycled – are also being communicated to the young audience at the festival.

The Tadweer team is additionally distributing ‘Khadra and Soudeh’ cartoon CDs to encourage the effective segregation of waste. Participants are also being given the chance to win prizes during the competitions held throughout the festival.

Khaled Al Bloushi, Public Awareness Section Head at Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), said: “Our participation in the Library Festival follows last year’s successful collaboration and reiterates our commitment and responsibility to this critical segment of society – children. Tadweer understands the importance of joint action to push forward innovation and excellence among our children. Establishing the reading habit as part of the child’s daily schedule is important for the development of cognitive perceptions. Through such activities, we also seek to raise awareness on the need to preserve and protect the environment from harmful pollutants, and eventually set the stage for creating a sustainable, clean and safe environment that we can all be proud of.”

Fatima Al Harmoudi, Public Awareness Officer – Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi), said: “Through entertainment programs and a variety of educational and cultural activities, Tadweer is encouraging children to strengthen their reading skills. We are also motivating our young audiences at the festival to get curious and ask more questions, even as they enjoy a range of exciting games and competitions.

“Tadweer is equally keen to educate parents on the importance of instilling a love for the environment in children and helping them take ownership for maintaining the general cleanliness of the city. We encourage all residents and visitors to the emirate to dispose of their waste in the designated areas."

Tadweer (Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi) is keen to participate in all community-based initiatives and play an active role in influencing social behaviour for the ultimate benefit of the larger general public. Through forging collaborations with public and private sector institutions and entities, Tadweer aims to achieve a sustainable environment in Abu Dhabi as envisioned by Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
