Employees Initiatives Save Over AED 8 Million For DEWA During First Quarter Of 2014

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) honoured winners of its Special Act Awards for their useful ideas and initiatives that helped save over AED 8 million in the first quarter of 2014. Winners in the Distinguished Employee and Ibda’a (Innovation) categories were also honoured during a ceremony attended by Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Power Transmission, Abdullah Al Hajri, Executive Vice President of Customer Services, Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, and a number of DEWA’s employees.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, praised the efforts of all DEWA’s staff, especially those whose contributions support DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable world-class utility. “Recognising the innovations of our excellent employees helps to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support and recognise innovators and reward their efforts. It also complement DEWA's objectives to foster creativity of our staff and honour distinguished employees, thus contributing to greater job satisfaction and in turn, efficiency of our services,” he said.

“We are recognising our employees who have contributed their creative ideas and led innovative initiatives that helped improve DEWA’s quality of work and enhanced the quality of our services to the highest standards of efficiency and reliability. The initiatives also contributed in achieving substantial financial savings for DEWA, which supports our vision to develop effective solutions for optimising our human and financial resources, streamlining capital and operational costs to maximise efficiency,” added Al Tayer.

Lootah presented Ahmed Anwer from the Transmission Power division, with the Special Act Award for the successful implementation of his proposal “value re-engineering and combining two jobs” which resulted in a cost saving of AED 4.76 million.

The Projects Transmission Department team was also honoured for their efforts to optimise the scope of consultancy services for the 132kV Cable Diversion for Business Bay Extension, saving AED 2.24 million. The team included Raja Abdulrahman and Ganesh Subramanian.

The third team that was honoured worked on the replacement of insulators and fitting of the 132kV Awir-Hatta and accomplished the job without help of external consultants leading to savings of AED 1.2 million. The team from Transmission Power included Hussain Ebrahim Lootah, Khalifa Al Mehairi, Ahmad Alredha, Rafat Ibrahim, Renato Padilla, Ashraf Albawaleez, Mohamed Gharib, Tanveer Ahmed, Sreekandan Nair, Narayana Samy, Alex Banjawan, and Mohammed Arif Uddin. 

“DEWA’s Human Resources department honours achievers who contribute to the efficiency and productivity of the work environment. Innovators are the real wealth of any organisation that looks forward to achieving excellence. We are keen to adopt programmes and initiatives designed to develop their skills and talents and stimulate creativity,” said Dr. Al Akraf.

Lootah honoured the following Distinguished Employees: Mohamed Marzouki, as Distinguished Employee of DEWA, Rajesh Pillai and Saeeda Sharaf, as Distinguished Employees in Administration & Finance, Sabahath Mirza, in first place and Arseio Rodriguez, in second place, as Distinguished Employees in Specialised Fields, Salim Basaed as Distinguished Employee in Technical and Engineering, Shaikh Ahmed, Distinguished Employee in Field Services, Halima Ghabish, Distinguished Female Employee, Magdy Ismail, Distinguished Employee in Supervisory Jobs, Mohammed Jaafari, first place and Muhammad Asghar, second place, as Distinguished Employees in the Unknown Soldier category, Maryam Belshalat, first place and Mariam AlHammadi, second place, Distinguished Employees in the New Recruit category, Nasser Ghuloom, Distinguished Employee in the UAE National category, and Cheryl Rebujio, Distinguished Employee in the Secretary category.

The winners of the Ibda’a Initiative for the Innovative Idea category, Generation Division were: Tayeb Al Khaja, Muhammed Zulfiquer, Khaled Kuley, Mohammed Islam, Seyed Hoseyni, and Muhammad Makki. The winner of the Innovative Employee category was Guna Sadayan from the Transmission Power Division.
