The Ministry of Interior has reminded motorists to comply with traffic and road regulations, to avoid speeding or reckless driving, in an effort to evade accidents, injuries and loss of life during Eid-Al-Fitr.
Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director-General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry, said that work at traffic departments will be intensified and the number of traffic police patrols will be increased in all streets and roads during what is expected to be a busy period for the department.
Brigadier Al Zaabi also said that drivers should maintain a safe distance between vehicles, not to stop or park illegally, causing any obstruction in traffic. Al Zaabi also stressed that drivers must not park in areas designated for people with special needs, Civil Defence or emergency services.
The Director-General also urged drivers to adhere to all speed limits, watch-out for other motorists, always wear seat-belts, prevent children under ten years old from sitting in the front seats, and to never use their mobile phones while driving to call or text, which Al Zaabi said poses a significant risk to the life of drivers and others on the roads.
