UAE Red Crescent, represented by its manager in the UAE, Mohammed Al Mazroui, received a cheque of AED2.5 million as a donation for UAE Water Aid, the Ramadan initiative launched His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The donation reflects du’s commitment to the values of Ramadan and that of UAE national institutions to save lives and aid the growth of developing countries around the world. The donation cheque was presented at du’s headquarters in Dubai Media City, by Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du, and Humaida Al Khalsan, Senior Manager, Corporate Sustainability and Communications Projects, du.
In addition to du’s AED 2.5m donation, the company’s staff has contributed almost AED 50,000 through an internal campaign launched in line with UAE Water Aid. du also launched a national SMS campaign to encourage the community to donate to significantly change the lives of less fortunate people for the better.
Hala Badri said: “Our thanks go to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for his compassionate approach to substantially changing the lives of so many people in the hour of need, and to our colleagues and customers who have given so generously to this noble cause. The next phase of UAE Water Aid, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, will spur exploration in the field sustainable solar energy. Not only will this benefit those societies that are less privileged by providing them with a water source powered by clean energy, and help boosting all major sectors, including education, health and economy, but it will also lead to considerable growth in the potential of renewable energy, especially solar power in the UAE and beyond.”
