Dubai Metro Commuters Enjoy Complimentary Wifi From du During Ramadan As Part Of #30DaysOfSharing Campaign
(15 July 2014)

#30DaysofSharing gives the UAE community the chance to do good from anywhere and everywhere. And with complimentary WiFi provided by du for all passengers on Dubai Metro this Ramadan, travellers can share their special moments while helping those in need.

Under the hashtag #30DaysofSharing, social media users on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are invited to share the things that make Ramadan special to them. For every post made with the #30DaysofSharing hashtag attached, du will donate AED 10 to its annual Mawaed Al Rahman Iftar tables initiative, from which Iftar meals are distributed to those less fortunate. With complementary WiFi for all Dubai Metro passengers, doing something good for the community has never been easier.

The complementary WiFi service will be available in all Dubai Metro carriages, on every train and on both the Green and Red Lines. To connect, all passengers need to do is select the ‘du WiFi’ from their WiFi-enabled device. Opening their device’s browser will direct them to the du WiFi landing page, from which they can start to enjoy complimentary browsing throughout their journey.

Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer, du, said: “Providing complimentary WiFi will allow Dubai’s commuters to enjoy a higher level of seamless connectivity. The ability to connect anywhere, at any time, empowers people with the ability to be more productive, and to stay in touch with the things that matter most to them  something that we consider tto be important at a time such as the Holy Month of Ramadan.”

du initiated the world’s first of its kind WiFi network on Dubai Metro’s Red Line in 2009, and followed by delivering WiFi connectivity to the Green Line in 2012. In recognition of its provision of connectivity for passengers, the company was honoured by the Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA). Additionally, du’s WiFi network on Dubai Metro was named ‘The Most Innovative Mobility Project’ at Cisco Networkers 2010.

The Dubai Metro operates two lines, the Red Line (opened in 2009) and the Green Line (opened in 2011), that traverse Dubai. According to Guinness World Records, it is the world’s largest fully automated metro network with a route length of 75km; it is also the first urban train network in the Arabian Peninsula.
