RTA Launches Charity Bus To Offer Ramadan Rations To 200 Needy Families, 1750 Iftar Meals
(1 July 2014)

The Roads and Transport Authority announced that it will start as early as next week the implementation of the Charity Bus initiative to provide Ramadan rations for 200 needy families as well as 1750 Iftar meals in several areas. The step is part and parcel of RTA’s Ramadan Package marking the advent of the holy month in the context of its commitment to the community and keenness to establish channels of communication and compassion with various community members and events during religious occasions and others.

Yousef Al Rida, Executive Director of RTA Corporate Support Services Sector, said: “The RTA always seeks to offer humanitarian contributions and take initiatives supporting charitable events of benefit to targeted community segments in manifestation of the values of solidarity, compassion and volunteering between the public sector and community members. The month of Ramadan is a great event to showcase RTA’s strategy in this regard.

“The RTA is gearing to roll out a host of typical Ramadan initiatives starting with the Charity Bus initiative under ‘With You’ program featuring participation of volunteering employees, Directors and CEOs. The initiative offers typical Ramadan rations to about 200 needy families in certain communities at Oud Mateena, Al Qusais, and Old Al Quouz, besides offering 1750 Iftar meals to visitors of Bus Stations at Al Ghubaiba, Gold Souk, and Al Qusais, as well as the visitors of Burjuman and Ittihad Metro Stations.

“The RTA will also support ‘Ramadan Aman, Together for an Accident-Free Ramadan’ campaign launched by Al Ihsan Charitable Society over and above the Charity Bus to assist the campaign in achieving its objectives of distributing Iftar meals to motorists on roads and intersections during Maghreb Athan (call for prayer) in a bid to safeguard the lives of drivers on road during the Iftar time, and curb excessive speed & potential accidents during this time. It will also lend support to the 18th Dubai International Holy Quran Award through deploying buses at the main premises of the Award at Mamzer to serve both guests and competitors to the venue of the contest in this international showpiece. Such a move reflects RTA’s tradition of effectively contributing to the distinguished events marking this holy month in a way befitting the profile of Dubai, particularly in this Award which attracts participants from all over the world,” added Al Rida.

“Our Ramadan initiatives have focused this year, as usual, on orphans where the RTA pledged to receive coupons from Dar Al Ber Society to collect donations from RTA’s employees in support of Eid dressing (Eid Kiswa) to orphans in the context of its humanitarian support to this segment, and contributing to bringing happiness to their hearts in these blessed days. The RTA will pursue its annual practice of holding Ramadan Majlis for employees at the World Trade Center in Dubai in a Hall bringing together a number of public entities with the aim of bolstering communication between employees and their work places, besides hosting a mass Iftar for workers and bus drivers at RTA’s Head Office with a view to offering spiritual atmosphere of the month reflecting the values of participation and interaction between employees and the RTA,” he added.

Khalid Mohammed bin Tamim, Head of the Organizing Committee of ‘Ramadan Aman, Together for an Accident-Free Ramadan’ campaign launched by Al Ihsan Charitable Society, commended the positive contribution of the RTA through supporting and sponsoring our campaign entitled ‘Ramadan Aman.. Together Towards Accident-Free Ramadan’, by distribute Iftar meals to the fasting motorists on roads and at intersections during Athan time. Such a hand offers us a great help in achieving our humanitarian mission of distributing meals to the largest possible number of targeted individuals. Thus the RTA is considered one of the biggest government supports of charitable and humanitarian activities.”

Ahmed Al Zahid, Member of the Organizing Committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, and Head of Media Unit, said: “No doubt the contribution of the RTA to the Award in deploying buses, vehicles and drivers to facilitate the movement of guests including contestants and judges panel, is very crucial for us. Such a support is ordered directly by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, who spares no effort or avenue to serve the Holy Quran, and lend support to the Dubai International Holy Quran Award to accomplish its mission.”

Al Zahid welcomed the ongoing cooperation and support accorded by the RTA to the Organizing Committee of the Award to ensure that this religious event is presented in an excellent manner measuring up to the caliber of other activities and events held in the Emirate of Dubai.
