UAE nationals get ID card registration deadline extended for another three months
(29 December 2008)

UAE nationals who failed to get ID cards by the end of December can still do so without suffering any penalty of paying a fine as the deadline has been extended for another three months, thanks to a decision made by the cabinet under the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

According to Interior Minister, H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed believes that UAE nationals who failed to register for the ID card should be given more time to do so. He said the new decision provides adequate time for all to register before the stipulated penalty is applied on those who failed to do so after the new deadline.

According to Cabinet Decision no. 201/1 of 2007 on the ID registration system, anyone who failed to register by the end of the December 31, 2008 deadline shall be penalised in accordance with Article 16 of Federal law no. 9 of 2006.
