HBL, among the first overseas banks to open a branch in the UAE back in 1967, this week received the most prestigious award available from global leading bankcard association UnionPay International (UPI).
During an award ceremony held in Shanghai, China on June 16th, Pakistan’s largest bank was recognised for its outstanding, record-setting achievements in launching its first card with UPI with the accolade of ‘The Prime Issuer of UPI Cards in MENA Region.’
In a period of just 12 months, HBL has become the largest issuer of UnionPay cards in the Middle East and North Africa.
UPI confirmed that HBL was singled out for the award due to their distinguished leadership in the issuing of cards both in Pakistan and the MENA region. During the ceremony, hosted at UnionPay’s international head quarters in Shanghai, HBL was also acknowledged for its patronage and trust in UnionPay’s brand and services.
In receiving the award, Faiq Sadiq, HBL’s Head Payment Services enthused: “Being the largest and number one bank in Pakistan, we always strive for excellence and roll out innovative solutions at competitive pricing for our valuable customers.”
“Achieving new levels, resetting the benchmarks and challenging our own potential is now a culture at HBL. We are very proud to be a strategic partner in card issuance with UnionPay not just in Pakistan, but also across international locations where HBL flag flies,” continued Sadiq.
Lixin Wang, Chief Business Development Officer of UnionPay International, explained: “Today, we feel delighted to declare that HBL has become the largest Issuer of UnionPay Debit Cards in the entire MENA region.
