Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and the Barjeel Art Foundation, in association with New York University Abu Dhabi Institute, last night hosted the third and final talk in the ‘Sky Over the East’ exhibition’s ‘In Conversation’ series. Part of the month-long exhibition at Emirates Palace Gallery which celebrates International Museum Day, the talk entitled ‘Museum Collections Make Connections’ welcomed Manal Ataya, the Director-General of the Sharjah Museums Department, and Saeed Saeed, journalist for The National newspaper, to discuss the role of museums in the 21st century.
Looking at the evolution of museums around the world, the talk looked at how these institutions have changed in recent years, the ways in which museums can engage and inspire the next generation, and how museums can fulfil their potential as education incubators.
The ‘Sky Over The East’ exhibition is at Emirates Palace Gallery until June 27 and presents a unique selection of works by leading Arab artists of the 20th century who explore the history of the region over the last century.
