The Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) has won a first place award during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) for the best application of information technology and e-learning during 2014. The prize, given for ADSIC’s innovative E-Citizen program, was awarded during the recently held WSIS conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The E-Citizen Program is a free training that enables people with a limited knowledge of technology to learn how to use computers and the Internet. Training is conducted in Arabic, and participants are taught by instructors from the Higher Colleges of Technology.
HamadounToure, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, delivered the award for the initiative to HE RashedLahej Al Mansoori, the Director General of ADSIC.
"This award is the culmination of much hard work and effort by the entire ADSIC team. They have been planning and implementing this e-literacy project since 2012, and we are proud to have those efforts recognized," said Mansoori. "This achievement is a clear indication that the center contributes to achieving the vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council. We are honored to support the Abu Dhabi government as they seek to become one of the best governments in the world. This win will motivate us to renew our resolve and to achieve more success, excellence and innovation in the future."
Onhand for the WSIS conference was a large delegation from the United Arab Emirates, along with a number of United Nations officials, heads of states and governments, ministers, senior government officials and private sector representatives were onhand at the event. A total of 17 projects – out of 140 submissions - were honored for exemplary work in the field.
