Al Ain Zoo To Enhance The "Bird House" Exhibit
(9 June 2014)

As part of its commitment to provide unmatched visitor experience in a fun and exciting learning environment, Al Ain Zoo’s Bird House will be undergoing enhancements during the upcoming months.

The renovations taking place will be based on the highest international standards, as part of Al Ain Zoo’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a leading zoo both regionally and globally. The zoo’s diverse collection of species and animal exhibits offers a range of exciting animal experiences and activities. Furthermore, it is home to important international conservation programs, and provides a wide range of educational activities that give visitors the opportunity to connect with wildlife and nature.

The Bird House will be temporarily closed starting from June, and will reopen following the completion of the renovations.  During the renovation works, penguins will be moved into isolation pens in the same building.

The improvements in the Bird House will also include the introduction of a new internal cooling system and animal related educational graphics.

The Bird House – home to 300 birds comprising 18 different species – is divided into two areas. The first area includes numerous types of birds such as the Houbara bustard, the long-tailed glossy starling, the long-tailed purple starling, the peach-faced lovebird, the crested lark, the stone curlew, and the spotted thick-knee.

The second area is home to a family of penguins, who have been at Al Ain Zoo for over 25 years, starting with just a few and now reaching over 30 birds, all of which were born and still currently residing at the zoo.

Al Ain Zoo is located on the UAE-Oman border and is a short drive from UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah and minutes away from Buraimi city in Oman. Al Ain Zoo is one of the city’s leading attractions. Visitors can also venture to the Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum, the former palace of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which tells the UAE’s cultural story prior to its dramatic development and Jabel Hafeet which rises at 1245 meters with enchanting views of the city in addition to Al Jahili Fort, Al Ain National Museum and other tourist destinations.

The zoo is open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
