The General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi’s officials recently foiled an alcohol smuggling attempt at Al Ghuwaifat border port. A driver attempted to smuggle 16,713 alcohol bottles outside the UAE through a truck loaded with vegetables.
The smuggling attempt was foiled after Al Ghuwaifat border port inspectors were informed by Al Ghuwaifat police of a suspicious truck leaving the UAE through the truck departure section. The truck driver is an Arab and was accompanied by another person of the same nationality.
Inspectors found several cardboard boxes filled with 16,713 750 ml alcohol bottles, each of which had been professionally placed under a vegetable shipment.
After the inspection, a record was issued on the incident and transferred to the concerned authorities to take all necessary legal actions.
Commenting on the incident, Mohamed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director General of the General Administration of Customs praised the ongoing cooperation of all security entities operating at Al Ghuwaifat border port and their commitment to provide maximum protection for the UAE community. He stressed that this dedication is reflected by the previous attempts foiled and controlled by customs inspectors, and their efforts to protect their homeland from any potential risks caused by cross border trade.
