International Aircraft Operators To Gather At ADNEC For IATA 134th Slot Conference 2014
(4 June 2014)

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) is set to host the IATA 134thSlot Conference 2014, a voluntary assembly of International Air Transport Association (IATA) and non-IATA airlines, from 10 - 12 Juneat the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

The largest event on the IATA calendar, the biannual Slot Conference will attract nearly 1,000 delegates from over 200 airlines as well as representatives of over 60 schedules-facilitated or fully coordinated airports. The conference aims to help airlines and airports worldwide obtain slots towards offering the best possible schedules for their customers.

Airport slots are rights allocated to aircraft operators to facilitate landing or take off at an airport at a specific time. IATA has set scheduling standards known as the Worldwide Slot Guidelines (WSG) to ensure effective management of airport slots.

Amid the exponential growth in passenger traffic, airports worldwide need to make necessary adjustments to tackle capacity limitations. The IATA Slot Conference provides key players in the international aviation industry with a guideline and platform to optimise their upcoming schedules.

HumaidMatar Al Dhaheri, Chief Commercial Officer at ADNEC, said: “The aviation industry is a key contributor to the growth of ADNEC’s portfolio, and an important driver of economic diversification in Abu Dhabi. Its success directly and indirectly correlates with the success of many other business sectors. For that reason we are delighted to be hosting the 134th edition of this important event, and we look forward to facilitating meaningful dialogue.”

Ahead of the conference, a three-day Airport Slots and Scheduling Training Course will be conducted from 7 - 10 June at the Aloft Abu Dhabi Hotel.

Hosted by Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), the event is set to position the emirate as a major player in the MICE and business tourism sectors. It is estimated that the conference will deliver a direct estimated economic impact of AED4.8 million to the economy of Abu Dhabi emirate.

ADNEC offers 133,000 sq m of inter-connected floor space to match the expectations of a wide variety of events and exhibitions. Equipped with modern facilities and built to international standards, the venue attracted 1.53 million people across 328 events in 2013.

ADNEC recently won the rights to host key international conferences including the 4th World Heart Failure Congress 2014, SPWLA (Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts) Congress 2014, Ecocity World Summit 2015, and World Skills 2017.
