Maksim Surov, the 27-year-old star of Russia’s acclaimed Bolshoi Ballet, is on his way to the UAE capital for his debut performance in the Emirates.

Maksim, who joined the Bolshoi in 2008 and has taken the lead in most of the theatre’s signature roles, will be the ‘Prince’ in next month’s ‘Cinderella’ performances, which will run at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as part of Abu Dhabi Summer Season.

“This will be my first visit to the UAE and I’m really excited about it as I have heard many positive things about the country from friends who have visited – about hospitality and the friendliness of the local people as well as the beauty of the cities. I hope we get a warm reception when we’re there and look forward to meeting responsive ballet lovers.”

Fourteen performances of ‘Cinderella’ d by The Royal Moscow Ballet with Maksim and his fellow Bolshoi lead ChinaraAlizade are slated for ADNEC from June 6. For Maksim, the Abu Dhabi dates represent a double-first – the first-time in a new country and his first public performance in Cinderella.

“As Cinderella is a proprietary edition of The Royal Moscow Ballet, I have never played the role before so it’s a kind of premiere for me,” explained Maksim. “I can tell you though that it’s been crafted as a very beautiful, magical story about love with many bright moments. However, I would watch out in Act 2 for a very beautiful adagio of Cinderella and the Prince which I can promise won’t leave anyone indifferent.”

‘Cinderella’ by The Royal Moscow Ballet is one of the largest productions undertaken in the Emirates with a cast and artistic and technical supporting crew of over 70, including 33 dancers and 30 members of theThe Royal Moscow Orchestra.

The ballet, which is set to the music of 20th century Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, is the curtain raiser of Abu Dhabi Summer Season, which runs June 5- 31 August with a blockbuster programme of world-class shows and concerts.
