The Special Care Centre raised more than Dh 500,000 in a charity dinner gala it organised yesterday and attended by nearly 300 diplomats, businessmen and community leaders.
The funds will be used to build a new state-of-the-art-school accommodating more than 400 children with special needs The dinner gala was held within the framework of "A brick from you and a brick to them" campaign, launched by Special Care Centre (SCC) to construct new purpose-built premises for the Abu Dhabi-based centre at Bahia.
Being organised by the Centre’s ’Kind Hearts Group’, the charity drive hopes to raise over Dh 50 million for the humanitarian project.
The Special Care Centre was inaugurated in 1989 as a non-profitable centre to provide educational and developmental service to the physically and mentally challenged children.
