Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, part of Al Futtaim group of companies, extended support to the Swedish Embassy, Guest of Honour at the 2014 Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
The Fair aimed to develop the local publishing industry and encourage residents to read through its various collaborations with different organisations in the industry. People attending the fair could visit stands of all popular publishing houses to purchase bestselling publications as well as get a chance to meet with popular writers from across the world.
John Kersten, Managing Director, IKEA UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Oman said: “Given its Swedish roots, IKEA shares a strong bond with the Swedish Embassy in the UAE. We are also passionate about reading and constant learning. Therefore we are very happy to partner with the Embassy at this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. We were delighted to welcome many eager readers to the 96 square metre IKEA-built pavilion of the Embassy of Sweden.”
During the exhibition, the Swedish Embassy invited key speakers from Sweden such aschildren’s authors, chefs, novelists and illustrators to address visitors at the event. Visitors could also meet best-selling children’s authors Martin Widmark and StinaWirsénor discuss fine cuisine with renowned chef, Stefan Eriksson. The Embassy also organised various fun activities including a ‘Sweden special quiz’ for children. IKEA also offeredprizes for participants.
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair took place between April 30 and May 5 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and was open from 9 am to 10 pm daily. On Fridays, the exhibition was open only between 4pm and 10 pm. The Embassy of Swedenhadalso launched a special facebook application with comprehensive information about Sweden as the ADIBF Guest of Honour, specifically for Arabic readers.
