Eton Institute, the UAE’s largest training and professional development centre, has conducted its first OSD test after achieving international status as the first OSD exam preparation and test centre in the Gulf Region, offering globally recognised certification for competence in the German language.
German instructors at Eton Institute were especially trained by a representative from the ÖSD head office to become certified invigilators for the exam. The turnout for the first test was well above expectations and more than 90% of students who sat the ÖSD exam were students of the German language at Eton Institute.
“International tests such as the ÖSD open doors to many global opportunities. We are very excited that we can now conduct the ÖSD test within our premises along with the ÖSD exam preparation. All the students who study German at Eton Institute and took the test with us passed with excellent results, which has not only instilled a sense of achievement in them but the same in us as well. It is not just about the certificate, it is about how we can make a difference in people’s lives,” commented Karen John, Coordinator at Eton Institute. 'We have already started receiving registrations from different locations for the next ÖSD Exam in November,” Ms John added.
ÖSD stands for "Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch". The ÖSD is a state-approved examination and assessment system for German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language, and is accepted for university admission in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and South Tyrol (Italy) and as proof of language ability for citizenship applications for Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
German is the official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein as well as in Italy's South Tyrol. In addition, German plays a role as a recognized minority language in Denmark, France, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
Germany, Switzerland and Austria are all famous for the quality of their universities, and Germany enrolls the third-highest number of international students in the world. Many of the world's most desirable cities to live are German-speaking and the German-speaking countries' economic significance is significant. According to the economic review from the German Information Center and magazine-deutschland.de, Germany boasts the world's fourth-largest national economy, and the per capita GDPs of German-speaking Switzerland and Austria rank third and fourth in the EU.
