Corniche Hospital hosted a special graduation celebration to honor its three graduates of the Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) program in Obstetrics Medicine and Fetal Medicine on the 28th of April at the Sheraton Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

The ceremony honored Dr Rasha Al Zaabi (ATSM in Fetal Medicine), Dr Smitha K and Dr Syed Anjum (ATSM in Obstetrics Medicine) who are specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology at Corniche Hospital. The trainees completed the hospital’s yearlong training program, which included a rigorous 4-week rotation in the United Kingdom. Dr Rasha Al Zaabi, was the first UAE national to have graduated from Corniche Hospital’s ATSM training in Maternal /Obstetric medicine in the year 2012.

As part of a postgraduate training program in obstetrics and gynecology, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG), UK allows Corniche Hospital to offer the ATSM in Fetal Medicine to the medical community in the UAE. These modules are designed to provide trainees with the increasingly advanced subspecialty skills required for independent practice. Corniche is the first facility outside of the UK to be accredited by the RCOG and authorized to provide advanced training in maternal and fetal and obstetrics medicine.

This internationally-recognized training at a local level is considered to be vital given the high rate of genetic disorders and medical problems amongst our mothers and physicians subspecialized in the fields of fetal medicine and maternal medicine being in high demand in the country.

“We are very proud of our integrated Maternal-Fetal Medicine training, which not only represents an educational collaboration between the RCOG and Corniche Hospital but also our commitment to offering continuing medical education for local health care providers,” said Dr. Paul Bosio, Corniche Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer.

Corniche Hospital has also been recognized by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International LLC (ACGME-I). The UAE, represented by SEHA, is only the second country outside of the United States to have its hospitals and residency programs accredited by this body.

Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
