The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) is participating in “Careers UAE 2014” from 22nd to 24th April at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, as part of its Emiratisation drive to attract and develop the skills of UAE nationals.
H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and H.E. Abdulla Ghobash, Minister of State, inaugurated the career fair and visited NBAD stand.
“We are committed to Emiratisation and support the government’s efforts to increase the number of UAE nationals in the private sector,” said Ehab Hassan, Group Chief Human Resources Officer & Senior Managing Director at NBAD. “Our Emirtisation strategy in NBAD goes beyond hiring people. We strive to equip them with the required knowledge and skills to serve the UAE and achieve our vision to be the World’s Best Arab Bank.”
He added: “A promising future awaits ambitious candidates who are keen on pursuing a career in NBAD.”During the career fair, NBAD offers onsite interviews to the candidates. It also brings representatives from different divisions to give insight into division and career opportunities.
“NBAD offers numerous training and career opportunities for fresh graduates and experienced professionals who are interested in building a successful career at the UAE’s leading financial institute,” said Amani Al Khaledi, Head of Emiratisation at NBAD.
NBAD has launched several initiatives to develop and maximise the potential of UAE nationals in different stages. For instance, under the AFAQ Management trainee Programme, NBAD sponsors a Master’s degree in Finance by recruiting fresh university graduates who exhibit great motivation and the potential to grow into future leaders.
The recruits complete a post graduate certificate which is equivalent to half of the Master's requirement in the first year by studying fulltime at the academy. During this period, they receive full employment salary. After the first year, AFAQ recruits are assigned to their permanent position. While they work fulltime, they continue studying part-time toward the completion of the Master's Degree.
The Bank also offers UAE national staff the Al Sadara program where they can study for a Masters in International Business and gain work experience simultaneously.
In 2011, NBAD launched Tomouh to sponsor young UAE nationals who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements to pursue bachelor degrees at prestigious international universities. The Bank also sponsors enrolled university students by paying a monthly allowance through their Mustaqbali programme. The UAE nationals in these programmes are guaranteed internship and recruitment upon graduation.
“Our Emiratisation initiatives are designed to equip youth with the knowledge and develops their skills to meet the market demand for qualified Emiratis,” explained Ms. Amani Al Khaledi.
In recognition of its achievements, NBAD has won a number of awards and accolades for its Emiratization programs. The Bank has won the Human Resources Development Award in Banking Sector in 2004 and 2009; and Michael H. Tomalin, NBAD’s former Group Chief Executive, has won the Best Emiratisation CEO Award from Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS) in 2010 and 2012.
