James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, has been inducted into The British Travel and Hospitality Industry Hall of Fame in honour of his "significant part in creating and developing the travel and tourism industry in Britain and globally".
Announced during a gala dinner in London last night, Mr Hogan was selected for this honour by a nominating committee of senior industry leaders, including past inductees into The British Travel and Hospitality Industry Hall of Fame, which was first established in 1995.
Mr Hogan said, "I am very proud to have been recognised by the leaders within the British travel and hospitality industry, many of whom have been my friends and colleagues for a long time. I would like to thank the members of the nominating committee for this honour.
"I would also like to recognise the many individuals and organisations with whom I have worked in this exciting and dynamic industry. Together we are uniquely placed to connect people and places, and more importantly, to create jobs and support ongoing economic growth."
Mr Hogan was appointed President and Chief Executive of Etihad Airways on 10 September 2006, bringing more than 30 years of travel industry expertise to the Abu Dhabi-based airline, including senior positions at Hertz Australia, Hertz Europe, bmi, Forte Hotels and Gulf Air.
He has overseen the rapid growth of the UAE’s national airline, which now serves 103 passenger and cargo destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, operating a fleet of 96 modern environmentally friendly aircraft.
Etihad Airways currently operates three flights a day to London Heathrow and two flights a day to Manchester, while other cities in the UK are served through codeshare partnerships.
In August last year, Etihad Holidays, a division of Etihad Airways, was also launched in the UK, designed to cater for growing demand from one of the airline’s key global markets.
