Emirates NBD, the leading banking Group in the region, partnered with the GCC Board Directors Institute (BDI) to conduct the 17th Foundations of Directorship workshop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 7 – 8 April 2014.
The 2-day workshop presented the directors with contemporary issues and challenges that boards in the GCC are confronted with. The programme brought the directors through a series of modules on board composition and directors’ capabilities, core roles of the board, board structure, processes and protocols as well as directors’ duties and responsibilities. Through discussions and pragmatic experience-sharing, faculty and participants explored and analysed potential solutions, tools and effective board and corporate governance practices.
Commenting on the Foundations of Directorship workshop, Shayne Nelson, Group CEO, Emirates NBD said, "Emirates NBD is happy to partner with the GCC Board Directors Institute to host the 17th BDI Foundations of Directorship Workshop. Emirates NBD firmly believes that corporate governance plays a vital role in efficiently running an organisation and supporting the growth of the economy. As we aim to create more value for all our stakeholders, Emirates NBD continuously strives to ensure that transparency, ethical business practices and effective internal governance are accounted for at all times."
Nathalie Potvin, Executive Director of the Institute added, "Looking at the pool of participants who have joined this year’s Foundation of Directorship workshop, it is clear that improving the role individual board members play in making an impact on the organisation is now high on the region’s agenda."
Since its inception in 2007, BDI has established itself as the leading organisation in the Gulf for boards and directors. The Institute counts more than 400 members and has trained over 300 board directors.
