Experts from the aviation and aerospace sector met yesterday to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by supply chain players at the Abu Dhabi Suppliers Forum, held in the lead to Abu Dhabi’s second Global Aerospace Summit.
Industry leaders shared details of their current partnerships in the Middle East and identified possible partnership strategies in the future.
“Our US$2.5 billion commitment with local organizations such as Strata, Mubadala and Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI) is indicative of how focused we are on working with our UAE partners,” added Jay Campbell, another Boeing executive speaking at the forum.
“When we think of expanding our business, we don’t see competitors or customers. We consider other industry players to be potential partners that can help us grow,” said Vincent Mohni, Senior Operations Manager at Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI).
The panelists also discussed their objectives for Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and what role suppliers are playing in supporting the emirate’s ambitions to become an international aerospace hub.
“Abu Dhabi is already branching into several fields that will contribute to economic diversification and social development in the emirate as well as the wider UAE,” said Sara Al Ahbabi, General Procurement Manager at Strata. “Strategic partnerships with global players such as Boeing and Airbus are bringing us a step closer to achieving the 2030 Vision.”
Frederic Barthe, Aerolia Services Director at AEROLIA: “At Aerolia, we are exploring new ways of cooperation in order to speed up the development of the UAE industry. We believe we can develop an increasingly integrated industrial system by looking for more effective ways of working together – a win-win for both us and the UAE.”
The session concluded with an interactive discussion between delegates discussed how the industry can be made more long term and sustainable. Criteria such as project management capability, technological skill, functional integration and the ability to meet quality control requirements were established as key characteristics common in strong supply partners.
Co-located with the Global Aerospace Summit, the Abu Dhabi Suppliers Forum provided the delegates the unique opportunity to network and form profitable and mutually beneficial new relationships across the supply chain.
The Global Aerospace Summit is hosting aviation and aerospace experts to share their experiences of supporting industrialization, improving supply chain standards and creating value-added jobs for highly skilled individuals. The inaugural Summit in 2012 attracted more than 900 C-suite executives from 52 countries. The 2014 event will also include delegates from emerging markets such as Russia, China, India, Eastern Europe and South America.
