(2 April 2014)

Abu Dhabi Festival 2014 organised by Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has officially launched three new albums as part of its annual Composers’ Platform. With the aim of increasing access to music, and raising the level of appreciation and understanding around Arab music, the Platform supports innovative musicians from across the Arab world. Reflecting Abu Dhabi Festival’s commitment to nurture artistic innovation and providing much-needed support to music practitioners, this year’s artists include Macadi Nahhas, Hiba Al Kawas and The Foundation For Arab Music Archiving and Research

H.E. Hoda I. Al Khamis - Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Abu Dhabi Festival, said: “One of the cornerstones of the Abu Dhabi Festival is the importance of preserving and enhancing Arabic culture and heritage. Through the Composers’ Platform, we aim to celebrate our distinguished music traditions and pioneer new forms of expression while ensuring people are informed and proud of their collective identity.”

Macadi Nahhas – ‘Nour’

The latest album by the talented Jordanian artist, who performed at the 2011 Abu Dhabi Festival - revives long-forgotten songs from the region’s heritage in a subtle blend of styles from pop to jazz, while remaining faithful to maqamat and Arabic melodic structures.

Hiba Al Kawas – ‘Sawtiya Sama’

The Lebanese opera singer and composer’s second album presents a collection of songs featuring the poetry of Zahi Wehbe, Houda Naamani, Abdul Aziz Khoja, Nada El Hage and Raghida Mahfouz. Hiba Al Kawas performed at the 2008 Abu Dhabi Festival and her first album Li’anni Ahya was also supported by the Abu Dhabi Festival Composers’ Platform

The Foundation For Arab Music Archiving and Research – ‘Early Singers from Bilad Al Sham: Syria, Lebanon, Palestine’

They were the kings of the Levant music scene and their music captivated hearts and minds. This remarkable CD box set of 54 tracks immortalises the memory of 28 renowned singers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
