The well-known Lebanese theatrical artist Nidal Al Achkar arrives tonight to the UAE to participate in the Annual Kennedy Centre “Gulf Medal in the Arts” Gala and for a single theatrical performance of “Al-Wewiyyeh”, a play based on Brecht’s Mother Courage, organised by the Alumni Chapters of The American University of Beirut (AUB), the Lebanese American University (LAU), Universite Saint Joseph (USJ) and the American University in Dubai (AUD.)
The Kennedy Centre’s “Gulf Medal in the Arts” Gala will honour a number of figures who have left their mark on the cultural and arts scene and, as part of the programme, Nidal Al Achkar will read a poem by Badr Shakir al Sayyab “The Rain Song” against a live musical performance. Written by late Iraqi poet Badr Shakir al Sayyab (December 24, 1926–1964), the “Rain Song” is considered one of the most significant events in contemporary Arabic poetry.
Also, as part of the cultural activities of the Dubai chapters of AUB, LAU, USJ and AUD, Nidal Al Achkar will play the leading role in “Al Wewiyeh” directed by Nagy Souraty on the 6th of April at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (DUCTAC), along with Khaled Al-Abdallah, Abed Koubeissy, Ali Al-Hout and Hadi Douaibes. The Dubai performance will be followed by an Arab and European tour to major capitals, including Cairo, Paris and Brussels.
