Hilton Abu Dhabi is the proud recipient of this year’s Hilton Worldwide Eco Award, a prestigious recognition bestowed upon Hilton Worldwide hotels for their commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives.
The hotel, which has invested considerably in its environmental conservation efforts ranging from recycling to energy efficiency and waste management, was recognizedas the most sustainable hotel in the MEA region in a ceremony attended by Christian Grage, vice president operations of Hilton Worldwide Arabian Peninsula and VineshHurrychurn, director of engineering operations, Hilton Worldwide MEA.
Wolfgang Maier,general manager of Hilton Abu Dhabi, said: “We are extremely proud to have received the Eco Award for the MEA region. Sustainability is very important to us as it is a core element of Hilton Worldwide’s global commitment to protect and conserve the environments in which we operate. We are proud that our team’s hard work and dedication have been recognized and we will continue to lead by example by creating a culture of environmental consciousness at Hilton Abu Dhabi.”
Throughout the year, Hilton Abu Dhabi was awarded points for its team members’ sustainability related efforts, which included participation in awareness programs, community events, trainingand LightStay compliance, which is a proprietary tracking tool to measure sustainability performance across all Hilton Worldwide properties around the world.
Throughout 2013, Hilton Abu Dhabi team members initiated several eco-projectsincluding tree planting, beach and desert cleaning, recycling challenges, educational awareness for in house guests, and celebrating international sustainability days such as World Car Free Day and Earth Hour. Such initiativesreceivedinternational recognition,as Hilton Abu Dhabi’s Hiltonia Beach Club received the prestigious Blue Flag Award, a beach certification for sustainability, safety and cleanliness.
Launched by Hilton Worldwide in 2013, the award is part of a campaign known as the “€CO REWARDS Sustainability Campaign” and involves all Hilton Worldwide hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The campaign aims to recognize hotels whose team members are making the most active and impactful contributions to environmentally-friendly operations.
