SEHA’s Strategy For Environmental Safety Wins The Golden Award For Excellence
(24 March 2014)

The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) won the Golden Award for Excellence recently for its outstanding efforts in the fields of health and environmental management in the Emirate’s capital.

At an exclusive event organised by the Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility in Dubai, the award was received by SEHA planning and building maintenance executive director Mohammed Hassan Al Zaabi.

SEHA’s initiatives towards establishing international standards of occupational safety and health across its medical facilities have been paramount to their growth strategy and in line with the Government of Abu Dhabi’s Vision for 2020.

Meanwhile, its efforts toward a sustainable knowledge-based economy that maintains global standards of excellence in service delivery were further encouraged when the Joint Commission for International Accreditation (JCIA) granted 38 SEHA run medical institutions the Golden Seal of approval over the course of the last few months.

“Our medical facilities are committed to the cause for environmental protection and we have continuously and diligently followed the Abu Dhabi Health Authority’s legislation and policies in the matter,” SEHA’s director of franchise business Shamsa Atiq Al Mohairi said.

“Our adherence to domestic and international policies guarantees the provision of services according to global standards. It also ensures proper waste management and an environment that is free of disease,” she added.

SEHA’s medical waste management system employs a number of processes within its facilities to ensure an optimal work flow. Medical waste is sorted and grouped according to a system of colour coding, while waste collection is maintained in locations away from medical facilities to ensure patient health and safety.

At the same time, internal mechanisms have been developed to allow for verification and period reporting of each medical facility, complete with inventories to ensure optimal waste management levels across its affiliates. The subsequent evaluation of the hospitals’ effectiveness in maintaining environmental safety also plays a key role in their ability to retain and renew JCIA and other such international accreditations.
